About My Fractal Art

Art for me, whether it be photography, digital art or another media is a process of discovering. I like to explore and to try following different paths and see where they lead.

This love of discovery and following different paths to create something unique is what attracts me to working with fractals to create art. At their essence, a fractal is a image representation of a mathematical equation. When you first start, you see an image with lots of possibilities and then you either drill down by focusing on one area of the image and enlarging that area or you perform little tweaks to the equation and the image to see what you uncover.

At some point during the process of drilling down and tweaking I will see a pattern or shape that suggests something to me or strikes an emotion. I then move from a process of discovering to actively working to enhance and emphasize the pattern, shape or quality that I uncovered and bring it out to create an image. Sometimes this act of enhancing takes place within the program I used to generate the fractal and sometimes it takes place through digitally manipulating and changing the image in photoshop. Often enhancing the image to bring out what I see takes place in the fractal program and in Photoshop.

Prints

I'm currently in the process of setting myself up to make prints of my images that I will offer on this website. Prints will be made using a professional printer using archival, pigment based ink that will maintain its color and not fade for over 100 years when properly displayed under glass.

Many of my fractal images are in a standard 4:5 format and I plan to offer prints of this images in the following sizes:

  • 8x10
  • 11x14

Both of these sizes are very common and mats and frames can be found to fit these prints. I may also offer 4:5 ratio images in a larger size, either a 12x15 or 13x16.

Fractal images that are not in a 4:5 format will be offered in comparable sizes that maintain a proper height and width ratio for the image.

If you are interested in any of my images, either as a print or as a digital image, please contact me at keith@mephitbluestudio.com and I will get back to you.
